Course Content

  • Radiation basics: electromagnetic radiation, particle radiation. 
  • Sources of radiation: radioactivity, accelerated particles, atomic energy transition.
  • Types of radiation: non-ionizing radiation, ionizing radiation, black body radiation.               
  • Interaction of radiation with matter: photons, charged particles, neutrons.
  • Applications of ionizing radiation and radiative substances: medical, research, industry.
  • Ionizing radiation exposure: terrestrial radiation, radiation exposure pathways, biological effects of ionizing radiation. 
  • Ionizing radiation protection and safety: occupational exposure, exposure to the general public.   
  • Dosimetric quantities: definitions of different dosimetric quantities, dose limits
  • Radiation Detection: radiation detectors, personal dosimetry,
  • Extra-terrestrial radiation: temporal and spatial variation of extra-terrestrial radiation, spectral distribution of extra-terrestrial radiation
